James D. Courtney, 88, of Lake Charles, LA died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 in his residence. James was born on September 20, 1926 in Lake Charles, LA to James and Blanche Courtney. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and working in his bait shop. He loved being around family and friends. He was a proud WWII Navy Seal Veteran. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley Blanchard Carroll Courtney; five daughters, Bridget Courtney of Moss Bluff, LA, Vanessa Turner and husband Byron III of Woodstock, GA, Lori Nash and husband Carl T. of Westlake, LA, Dawana Holtzman and husband Barry of Houston, TX, and Rhonda Courtney of Pearland, TX; six grandchildren, Byron Turner III and wife Ali of Atlanta, GA, Courtney Lathouwers and husband Robbert of Atlanta, GA, Clint Nash and wife Bekah of Lake Charles, LA, Rachel Guimbellot and husband Josh of Lake Charles, LA, Benjamin and Raymond Holtzman of Houston, TX; three great grandchildren, Shepherd Nash, Annabelle Nash, and Archer Guimbellot; one sister, Joyce Liles. He is preceded in death by his parents. Services will be at 3:00 PM Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 1st Baptist Church of Westlake. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM Friday, January 2, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 1st Baptist Church of Westlake, LA. Burial will be at Magnolia Cemetery in Westlake. Rev Wayne McEntire will officiate services. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Billy Graham Ministries or In Touch Ministries of Charles Stanley.
