James William Dennis, born April 4, 1939 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, peacefully walked into the open arms of Christ on Monday, February 27, 2017 after many years of refusing to succumb to multiple health conditions. Jim was surrounded by his devoted family when he departed to be greeted by his siblings, Shirley Storm, Linda Dennis, Betty (and JB) Nunez, Kenny (and Pat) Dennis; and his parents, James and Geneva Estelle Dennis as he entered Heaven.
Jim will be missed by his wife of 30 years, Sharon Maul Dennis; and his children, Connie (Scott) Miller, Jamie (Bobby) Clouthier, Bonnie Sue (Randy) Kotara, Jason Dennis (and Alicia Allee), Andrea (Darren) McFarlain, and Lori (Jared) Burleigh. Jim lived for and adored all 19 of his grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Though he will be greatly missed, we take comfort in remembering the full life he lived. Some many know Jim as hard-headed and opinionated, but most will remember him as the kindest soul in Sulphur. As a young man in Hackberry, Jim was a star athlete and rodeo cowboy. As an adult, Jim could usually be found in a show barn with his kids showing sheep and pigs. He was a hard worker. He retired from F Miller and Sons as a superintendent and heavy equipment operator after his second heart attack in 1998.
In his retirement, Jim became an active member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. He joined the Knights of Columbus, made an A.C.T.S. retreat, and volunteered as maintenance man for many years. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow and took pride in attending all of their events until his health no longer allowed him to.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, March 2, 2017 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carlyss. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:30 PM at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Visitation will resume at 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery. Further fellowship will be held at the KC Hall on Lori Lane, behind St. Theresa’s Church.
