James Ellender

February 12, 1929 — September 23, 2017

James Wallace “Jim” Ellender, 88, of Carlyss passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017.  James was in the cattle business and loved working cattle and bailing hay.  James was a Deacon at Trinity Baptist Church for 20 years.  He enjoyed barbequing with his family and friends, fishing and hunting.  James was very helpful to others and was a jack of all trades.  He was an avid LSU and Saints fan.  James was a lifelong resident of Carlyss and he was a member of one of the pioneer families of this area.  James worked as a maintenance supervisor at Firestone for 34 years.  He was also a member of the pipefitters union #106.  James served his country in the United States Coast Guard for over two years.   

James is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jackie Dugas Ellender; his son, James “Jay” Ellender and wife Connie; his daughter, Karen Nickles and husband Lonnie all of Carlyss; six grand children, Misty White and husband Scott, Michael Higdon and wife Cheryl, Jonathan Higdon, Sarah Higdon, Rory Ellender and wife Shonda and Jayme Ellender and wife Monica; six great grandchildren, Renee White, Allie Higdon, Grace Higdon, Tyler Ellender, Evan Ellender and his special great grandchild, Gunnar Higdon; one great great grandchild, Mia Butterfield; and son in law and special friend, Mike Higdon.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucius and Alphado Ellender.

Services for James will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 2:30 PM at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home in Sulphur with Brother Lamar Huffman officiating.  Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the funeral home from 12 PM until the time of service.
