James Elmer Miller, Jr., 85, left this world to be with the Lord on Thursday December 9, 2010. He had been living in Ozark, Missouri since 2008 to be close to family.
Born in DeRidder, Louisiana, to James Elmer and Lula Fruge Miller, Sr., Mr. Miller moved to Lake Charles in 1947. He served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a gunner on a B-29. He graduated from DeRidder High School and later from Louisiana State University in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over fifty years, beginning his career in DeRidder, where he received his Masters' Degree. He also held a plural membership with the Justice Lodge No. 449 and was named a member of the Grand Lodge Family in 1986 and 1994, travelling with the Potentate. Mr. Miller was a charter member of the Habibi Shrine Temple.
Mr. Miller worked for 26 years at Southern Alkaline (now PPG), retiring in 1973 as Preventive Maintenance Engineer. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles.
He is survived by his son, John Louis Miller and wife Mary of Gillis, Louisiana and daughter Patty Ann Allen and husband Bill of Ozark, Missouri; grandchildren, Kirby James Miller, Amy Allen Day and Molly Allen; great grandchild, Kolton James Miller and sister Sharon Terry of Conroe, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Betty Wardle Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday December 13, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Home. Dr. John White will officiate. Interment will be at Dry Creek Cemetery in Dry Creek, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Sunday with Masonic Rites being observed at 7:00 PM. and on Monday from 8 a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be Bill Allen, Sam Jones, Kirby Miller, Lucky Moses, Tre' Rebstock and Lee Temple.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to season's Hospice of Ozark, Missouri for the compassionate and dedicated care given their father during his illness.
