James "Ferrel" Naquin

June 24, 1941 — July 25, 2021

James Ferrel Naquin (Ferrel), 80, of Lake Charles, LA , passed away peacefully at his home on July 25, 2021 with his devoted wife, Belva and family by his side.

He was born in 1941 in Evangeline Parish, LA to Gussie and Ena Naquin. He attended Vidrine High School near Reddell, LA. He met Belva as a teenager and would later marry her and they shared sixty years of marriage. After completing Barber School they made Lake Charles their home and he worked as a barber until Hurricane Laura destroyed his shop, The Matador Barber Shop.

He loved his family and was their pride and strength.It brought him joy to share his Cajun heritage withthem, enjoying Cajun music, old classic country music. He was a dutiful husband and father, teaching through example the importance of faith and family. He was an active member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. As a father, he was involved in every aspect of his childrens lives, ever present for every event, success, and failures, always offering kind and encouraging words to help.

As the owner and Barber of The Matador, it was not just a job to him, as he was dutiful to his family, hewas dutiful to his customers. He loved being a barber,from the young gentleman who came in for a cut, to the first haircut of the next generation, the gift of conversation was his. They became family to him, ever eager to hear what was current in their lives, he celebrated their achievements and offered a listening ear when needed.

When he was not standing behind the barbers chair you would find him spending time with his family, watching football, playing cards, and enjoying the horse races.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his Lord and Savior; his parents, Gussie and Ena Naquin; his daughter, Belinda Monds, his granddaughter, Lauren Baker, and his son-in-law, Andy Baker.

Those left to cherish Mr Naquin’s  memory are his wife, Belva Naquin of Lake Charles; Daughters: Joana Gleitz (Steve) of Coweta, OK; Delaina Beaugh (J.C.) of Missouri City, TX, Rachel LaFleur (Marvin) of LeBleu Settlement, LA; son, Gregory Naquin (Tammy) of Moss Bluff, LA and son-in-law, Bobby Monds of Washington state.

Also left to cherish his memory are his sister, Bernela (Bennie) Meche (Lanard) of Arnuadville, LA, thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, multiple in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would love you to bring and share photos of haircuts, and first haircuts over the years.  We will be displaying at the visitation and services.

The family will welcome friends on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at University Baptist Church beginning at 5pm until 9pm, with a Rosary to be prayed at 6pm. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at St. Margaret Catholic Church beginning at 9:30am until time of service. A Mass of Christian Burial led by Monsignor Jace Eskind will begin at 11am with burial to follow at Consolata Cemetery.
