James Fredrick Foster

James Fredrick Foster, 79, of Winnsboro, LA died Friday, February 24, 2012 in a Winnsboro care center.

Mr. Foster was born in New Castle, TX, raised in Plainview, TX and has lived the past year in Winnsboro. Mr. Foster began working in the Grocery Industry as a "volunteer" bag boy at the age of 13, at Furr Foods in Plainview, TX, having earned the title as manager by the age of 19. He worked many years as the manager of K-Mart Foods in Lake Charles and later owned and operated Foster Grocery in Mineola, TX. He retired to Toledo Bend where he an active member and Fire Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed vegetable and rose gardening and took great pride in the time spent with his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Mr. Foster will be most remembered as hardworking and for his devotion to his family.

He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of 61 years, Nelda McGuire Foster of Winnsboro; two sons, Gary Foster of Shreveport and Mike Foster of Toledo Bend; four grandchildren, Amanda Foster Bankston and husband Jeddie of Sulphur, Jason Foster and wife Jayme of Winnsboro, Hollie Peveto and husband Colby of Sulphur and Adam Foster of Lake Charles; thirteen great- grandchildren; Tristan, Tanner, Eli, Zoe, Elijah, Ava, Emma, Jayde, Kelsea, Connor, Cassie, Carson and Allie; two brothers, Vancel Foster and wife Audrey and Darvis Foster and wife Mildred; one sister, Delores Hurlbert and husband Jerry and numerous nephews and nieces. He also leaves his beloved "baby dogs", Muffin and Max.

He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Foster; grandson, Chad Foster; parents; two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 28, 2012 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jason Foster will officiate. Interment will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation Tuesday will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
