James Harold Benoit

October 15, 1917 — September 21, 2010

James Harold Benoit, 92, of Lake Charles died at 9:43 PM on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 in a local hospital.


Mr. Benoit was born in Thibodaux, LA on October 15, 1917 and lived in Lake Charles most of his life. He was an electrician for Olin Chemical for 43 years before retiring and was a member of IBEW Local #861.


He was Past Commander and Chaplain of American Legion W.B. Williamson Post #1 where he was a lifetime member. He held many titles during his 36 year membership. Mr. Benoit lived life to the fullest and enjoyed his family.


Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Irene Broussard Benoit; one son, James R. Benoit and wife Linda Sue Miller; one daughter, Marlayne Terro all of Lake Charles; one brother, Warren Benoit of Lancaster, TX; three step daughters, Peggy Platt and Charlene Harrison and husband Gene all of Breaux Bridge, and Jenny Thibodeaux and husband Craig of Dequincy; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; and seven step great grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marvel Kiser Benoit; a son, Ronald Alan; one sister; and three brothers.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 25, 2010 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Dan Landry Will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with an American Legion W.B. Williamson Post #1 memorial service being held at 5:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of services.


The family wishes to express a special thanks to Odyssey Healthcare and their wonderful staff for their excellent care and support. Also a special thanks to Liz Riley for your patience and tender, loving care and to Kim Conner, we will be forever grateful of the love and compassion you have shown your grandfather these last few months. You were such a joy to him and brought him so much comfort.
