James “Jim” Blanchard, 79, of Sulphur passed away Saturday, May 22, 2016 in a local hospital.
Mr. Blanchard was born and raised in Rayne, LA and has lived most of his life in Sulphur. He served the United States Marine Corps from 1953-1956 and Air Force from 1956-1960. He studied pilot training thru a GI Bill from 1968-1976, during which time he obtained licenses for private commercial, instruments, multi engine and flight instructor. Mr. Blanchard retired a Powerhouse Foreman following thirty-two years with Lyondell/Basell. He was also a Real Estate Appraiser with thirty-five years experience. He was a partner with former Blanchard, Branch, Budge & Hutchins Appraisals, LLC. He was proud to be a licensed MSA (Master Sr. Appraiser), CRP (Certified Real Estate Professional) and IFA (Fraternity of Appraisers). He always enjoyed the diversity in Real Estate and continuing his education each year. Mr. Blanchard was an avid reader, supporter of the US Humane Society, enjoyed yard work and loved to travel. He was an optimist who was not afraid to face challenges or try new things. Mr. Blanchard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Sulphur where he was a Treasurer and volunteer for fund raisers.
He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of forty years, Elsie Blanchard of Sulphur; three children, Douglas James Blanchard (Lori) of Jemison, AL, Cherie Kyle (Pos) of Sulphur and Randy Blanchard of Indianapolis, IN; two stepsons, Ronnie Petree (Bonnie) of Welsh and Patrick Allen (Lisa) of St. Rose, LA; nine grandchildren, Heather Domit (George), Michelle Watts (Tyler), Colby Kyle, Courtney Kyle, Christopher Blanchard, Levi Petree, Hannah Petree, Whitney Petree and Kaycie Allen and two great-grandchildren, Brayden Kyle and Ledger Watts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas James and Agnes Blanchard.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sulphur under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Shayne McCoy will officiate. Interment will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM in the church.
