James "Jim" Carroll Laporte

James “Jim” Carroll Laporte, 83, of Lake Charles passed away at 2:25 PM on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 in a local hospital.

 

Mr. Laporte was born on May 5, 1934 in Arnaudville, LA. He was a graduate of Cecilia High School and furthered his studies at McNeese State University and also at USL. Mr. Laporte enlisted in the US Air Force in December of 1952 and proudly served our country during the Korean Conflict until being honorably discharged in June of 1955. He then worked in the petro chemical industry for 38 years until retiring in 1995. Mr. Laporte was a faithful servant of the Catholic community. He was a 57 year member of St. Margaret Catholic Church where he served as lector and usher.

 

He will be remembered for his pleasantly witty personality and for his love of Bluegrass music. He and his wife enjoyed RV camping, especially when visiting Colorado.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Mercedes Vitte Laporte; two daughters, Pauline Marie LaPorte and Theresa LaPorte Brooks (Jared) all of Houston; son, Dwayne LaPorte of Albuquerque, NM; daughter-in-law, Denise LaPorte of Lake Charles; brother, Dewey Laporte of Hollywood, FL; two sisters, Audrey Ann Lavergne of Port Barre, LA and Jane Guillory of Metairie; three grandchildren, Forrest Brooks, Devin LaPorte, and Derek LaPorte; and two great grandchildren, Bella Klaire and Claire Michelle LaPorte.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Melanie Laporte and a son, David LaPorte.

 

Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. A private inurnment will be held at a later date in Consolata Cemetery.
