James "Jim" Thomas

James “Jim” Thomas, 59, passed away at his residence on August 17, 2022.

He was born on May 21, 1963 in Hammond, Indiana to Melvin and Lucinda Thomas.

Jim was an avid car aficionado. He loved spending time with his family. He was an active member of St. Luke Simpson United Methodist Church and the New Horizons Sunday School Class. He was happily retired after working for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years. It is said that he never met a stranger.

He is survived by his very loving wife of 19 years, Edith McNeely Thomas; daughters, Kimberly Knepper (Jared) and Lauren Martin; grandchildren, Nathan Knepper and Ethan Knepper; Mother, Lucinda Thomas; siblings, Susan Breaux (Steven); nieces, Samantha Deroche (Mark) and Natalie Ayres (Andrew); nephew, Corey Breaux; great niece, Jovie Deroche; great nephews, Shepherd Deroche and Jude Deroche.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Masten Thomas; and grandson, Jordan Kent Knepper.

His funeral service will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 11 a.m. Dr. John Robert Black will officiate. Burial will take place in Consolata Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 22, 2022 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will resume on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the start of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Maria Cabanillas, Dr. Mark LaFuria, and the doctors and nurses of MD Anderson Cancer Center for their compassion and care.
