James "Jimmy" Vassos, 80, of Lake Charles died at 8:04 AM on Saturday, April 2, 2011 in a local hospital.
Mr. Vassos was a native of Pittsburgh, PA and was a resident of Lake Charles since 1996. He lived in Detroit, MI for most of his life where he was a machine specialist before becoming a TV and radio repairman. Mr. Vassos was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Port Arthur, TX and of St. John the Divine Orthodox Church in Lake Charles.
He served in the Navy Reserve for four years. Mr. Vassos was a professional bowler and enjoyed fishing.
Those left to cherish his memory are his two sisters, Mary Simms of Brentwood, CA and Helen Domingos of Houma; one brother, Chester Vassos of Lake Charles; a step daughter, Collette Moskwa and family of Wyoming, MI; a step son, Mike Cates and family of Detroit, MI; five nieces and nephews; four great nieces and nephews; and two great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Freda and Peter Vassos.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 3, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Chris Fuselier will officiate. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until time of services.
