James Leldon Parton, 92, of Lake Charles, LA passed away on January 1, 2018, in a local hospital with his family by his side. James, or Leldon as he was known to his friends, was born on December 12, 1925, in Ohatchee, AL, to William and Lora Ellis Parton.
Leldon left high school to join the U.S. Navy and served his country in the Pacific during WWII. After returning from the service, he met and married his wife Nobie Cobb. Leldon and his family moved to Lake Charles in 1961. He worked as a mechanic for most of his life and became a Master Mechanic working on heavy industrial equipment. In his spare time, Leldon loved to shrimp and work in his garden.
Leldon is preceded in death by his parents, son Jerry Wayne Parton and two brothers, Top Parton and Norris Parton.
Leldon leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 69 years, Nobie Parton. He also leaves four children, Pat (Dan) Nelson of Daphne, AL, Paula (Ken) Zimmerman of Pottsboro, TX, Sue Musgrove of Lake Charles, LA and James (Mary) Parton of Hohenwald, TN. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren along with a sister, Louise Reaves and a brother Robert Parton.
The family will receive friends at Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday, January 4, 2018, from 4PM-9PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Friday, January 5, from 8-10AM. Funeral services will be held at 10AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Leldon’s name to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl.17, Chicago, IL 60601.
