James "Jimmy" Pitre, B.S, M.ED., 75, of Lake Charles passed away at 8:00 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2024 in his residence. He was a beloved educator, coach, and community leader

Mr. Pitre was born on June 20, 1949 in Eunice where he grew up and developed a love for sports that would shape his lifelong legacy. A standout athlete, Mr. Pitre graduated from Eunice High School, where he was a star on the basketball court. His excellence in sports was recognized when he was inducted into the Eunice High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. Following high school, he earned a basketball scholarship to McNeese State University where he earned his master's degree in education while also coaching and teaching at McNeese and his alma mater, Eunice High School.

He later returned to McNeese to become a specialist and then became the Intramural Director and the Director of Recreational Complex and also taught driver's education. Mr. Pitre held several leadership positions in NIRSA (National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association) and LACIRSA (Louisiana Association of College & University Recreation). His service to the community was also reflected in his tenure as past president of the Calcasieu Parish School Board, where he played a pivotal role in local education for several years.

Throughout his life, Mr. Pitre was a dedicated father, coaching his three boys in their little league sports and fostering their love of athletics. His passion for sports, both as a player and as a fan, was evident in every aspect of his life. His legacy as a coach, educator, and community leader will live on for generations.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Jean Hartwell Pitre; sons, William "Billy" F. Pitre of Lake Charles, Steven J. Pitre of Lake Charles, and John B. Pitre (Kelli) of San Antonio; sisters, Brenda Torrence (Gene) and Melinda Boenig (Kenneth) of Eunice; and his beloved grandchildren who affectionately called him "Poppi", Calie P.
