James Ray Johnson, 93, of Starks, LA, died at 12:50 AM on Sunday, June 10, 2018 in a local care facility.
Mr. Johnson was born August 26, 1924 in Starks, LA, and lived there much of his life, with some years spent in Albuquerque and central Texas. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, and another year after the war, and later served briefly in the Air Force. He worked as an accountant in the construction industry most of his life. He was fond of music (especially Big Band and Ray Price), and he and wife Dorothy were wonderfully smooth on the dance floor.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his sister, Mary Frances Rasberry; daughters, Katherine Dianne "K.D." Sullivan and Anna Donaquricha "DQ" Shelton; step-daughter-in-law, Lilah Speakmon; grandson, John Sullivan; step-grandchildren, Dennis Speakmon, Woodrow Gould, Theresa Coleman and Susan Barnes; great-grandchildren, Taevin Sullivan and Paxton Sullivan; nine step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; twenty-nine nieces and nephews; and numerous grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie Johnson and Lydia Johnson; seven siblings: Myrtle Evans, Lucy Johnson, Helen Meadows, Gladys Platt, L. C. "Curt" Johnson, William Johnson, and Betty Jean Thompson; his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Lea Johnson; step-son, Thomas L. Speakmon, Jr.; and step-grandchildren, Cynthia LaFollette and Timothy Speakmon.
His graveside service with military honors will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Doyle Cemetery in Starks, LA. Burial was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
