James Richard "Slug" Sullivan, 73, of Lake Charles, LA died at 9:05 AM on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in a local hospital. Mr. Sullivan was born September 12, 1940 in Lake Charles, LA, where he was a life-long resident. He was a 1958 graduate of LaGrange Senior High and attended McNeese State University. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp, where he was a boxer and earned the nickname "Slug". Mr. Sullivan worked as a pipefitter for Local #106 for forty-two years. He was a member of Grand Lake Assembly of God. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson, gardening, working out at LA Fitness, and was an avid LSU football fan. He was loved and will be missed dearly. Mr. Sullivan is survived by his only son, Chad Sullivan and wife Lisa of Lake Charles; only grandchild, Nick Sullivan; and brothers, Mickey Sullivan and wife Carol of Moss Bluff and Melvin Sullivan of Lake Charles. He was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Gerry Ardoin Sullivan; parents, William and Eva Addison Sullivan; brothers, Edward Sullivan and Leonard Sullivan; sister, Dorothy George and her husband Kamile; and sister-in-law, Joyce Sullivan. His funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, December 14, 2013 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Andrew Martin will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
