James "Richard" Wene, 62, of Sulphur, LA died after a lengthy illness at 5:28 AM on Sunday, November 24, 2013 in his residence. Mr. Wene was born November 11, 1951 in Lake Charles, LA, was a 1969 graduate of LaGrange Senior High and attended McNeese State University. He lived in Eunice for five years before moving to Sulphur in 1979, where he has resided ever since. He worked for Continental Pipeline and as a maintenance supervisor at ConocoPhillips, where he retired in 2006 after thirty-six years of service. Mr. Wene was raised in the Catholic faith. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help and give to others. He enjoyed boating, traveling, and camping, but his true passion was for his family. He loved helping take care of his grandchildren and enjoyed his role as "Grandpa" to his own family as well as to others he loved. Mr. Wene is survived by his wife of forty years, Christie Harcrow Wene; children, Katie Broussard and husband Jeff and David Wene and wife Jessica, all of Sulphur, LA; brother, Marion Lane Wene and wife Linda; sister, Jennifer Jane Lormand and husband Ron, all of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Kayla Anne Broussard, Hailey Alitha Wene, and Jacob Matthew Wene; aunt, Daisetta Carr and the late Chester Millard Carr; special aunt and Godmother, Nona Lumpkin and the late Bryan Lumpkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Archibald and Frona Louise Carr Wene; nephew, Christopher Wene; and grandparents, Hazel and Chester Carr. His memorial service will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Father Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
