James Roderick "Rod" Ardoin, 72, of Lake Charles, LA died at 10:52 PM on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 in a local hospital. Rod was born February 4, 1942 in Alexandria, LA but lived most of his life in the Westlake/Lake Charles area and worked as an employee of the Lake Charles Regional Airport. He was a graduate of Westlake High School and was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church. Rod later mastered the French accordion and helped create the band "Medicare Playboys". They were known for entertaining the elderly at nursing homes. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and woodworking. Rod is survived by his sons, Kevin Scott Ardoin and wife Lannie of LeBleu Settlement and Randy Craig Ardoin of Lake Charles; a sister, Kathleen Joan Ardoin; a brother, Joseph Eric Ardoin and wife Sherry; and two grandchildren, Kyle Grafe and Brooklyn Ardoin. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn Jean Ardoin; his parents, Willis and Agnes Chatman Ardoin; and a brother, John Delta Ardoin. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will resume on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
