James Walter Liggett

James Walter Liggett, 77, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away on November 13, 2023 at Harbor Hospice after a lengthy illness. He was born on September 17, 1946 in Atlantic, Iowa to Maurice and Doris Lent Liggett.

A graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, James worked as a dedicated salesman for Nebraska Distributing. He worked for Evans Distributing in Iowa City, IA before moving to Lake Charles in 2009 and worked for Four Seasons Equipment Company, retiring in 2016. His love for family and friends was evident in the joyous gatherings he cherished. He was a proud Iowa Hawkeye and LA Dodger Baseball fan, and he also had a passion for cars.

James is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Kathryn Liggett; his daughters, Maureen Sue Gadbois and Karen Lee Saunders; his granddaughter, Chelsea Sue Felix; his great-grandchildren, Tristan Allen Sievers, Rhett Scott Dean Felix, and Wayne Jimmy Lee Felix; his in-laws, Shirley Nevins, Roger Schmidt, Carolyn Arvin, and their families, along with other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dean Liggett.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, located at 3939 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA. Msgr. Daniel Torres will serve as Celebrant. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. A Memorial Gathering and inurnment will be held in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at a later date.
