James Wilson Marcantel

James Wilson Marcantel, 81, of Lake Charles passed away on August 28, 2023 in a local hospital with his family by his side. He was born on August 1, 1942, in Oberlin, Louisiana, to John and Leler Reed Marcantel.

Wilson graduated from Oberlin High School. He moved to Lake Charles to begin a family, where he spent the remainder of his life.  He initially worked as a carpenter constructing commercial and residential properties.  Wilson also custom built two of his personal homes, and he later became a builder and developer of a mobile home park, duplex and single family units. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his four children, Bridget Hinton (Alan) and Curt Marcantel both of Lake Charles, Tony Marcantel (Bonnie) of Belmont, North Carolina and Lisa Marcantel of Lake Charles; eight grandchildren, Lauren Hinton Kirk, Kristen Hinton Casey, Jake Hinton, Callie Marcantel Thomas, Garrett Marcantel, Austin Marcantel, Taylor Marcantel and Jordan Marcantel; and six great grandchildren.  He is survived by two sisters, Elsie Rawls of Baton Rouge and Virgie Derouen of Lake Charles, and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 8, 2023 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, located at 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles, LA.  Msgr. Jace Eskind will serve as Celebrant.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service at 11:00 AM.  A rosary will be recited immediately following the funeral service. Cremation will be entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, and he will be laid to rest in Consolata Cemetery at a later date.
