Jane Marie Whiteman, 77, of Westlake, passed away Monday, April 15, 2024, at a local hospital. Jane was born August 15, 1946, to Walter and Irene Peshoff in Cameron, LA. and was one of 16 children.
Jane was a devoted wife and partner to Robert for over 30 years, sharing many life experiences and a loving home.
Jane was a supportive sister, a loving mother and a giving grandmother.
Being the first born of 16 children, she often took on the tremendous role of assisting to raise her siblings before becoming a devoted mother to her own four children.
The ultimate “sports mom” of her day as she attended and LOUDLY cheered on all of her children at every sporting event, band activity or academic performance as well as being a Boy Scouts Den Mother for her son and many young men in Cameron Parish.
Jane enjoyed dancing, singing karaoke, playing pool and was very often the life of the party. She was no wallflower. She never met a stranger as she would greet you, cracks jokes and became fast friends. She was always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need, as she had a tremendously giving heart and nature.
Jane was very crafty and had many talents and loved to crochet after becoming a grandmother as she made it her life goal to place a handmade blanket on all her children and grandchildren’s beds.
Jane worked many jobs throughout her life as well as attending college to become a registered nurse. Although that dream was not fulfilled due to medical issues, she still continued to work at a nursing home until she her retirement.
In her final stages of life she took much love and joy with her beloved puppy “Bear”.
She will be dearly missed by all of her friends and loved ones.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband; Robert Whiteman, daughters; Candace Williams, Nealie Kay McDaniel, Misty Dawn Long (Michael), son; Joseph Sedlock II, sisters; Kathy Navarre, Pamela Hall, Connie Peshoff, Sharon Peshoff, brothers; Robert Peshoff, Daniel Peshoff, Randy Peshoff, 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family as well as a host of loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters; Deanna Jordan, Gladys Evans, Judy Boudreaux, brothers; Larry Peshoff, Ronald Peshoff, David Peshoff, Walter Peshoff, Jr. and Baby Boy Peshoff.
Visitation will be Friday, April 19, 2024, from 4:00PM until 8:00PM, with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00PM at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St. Lake Charles, LA. 70605. Visitation will continue at the funeral home, Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 8:00AM until 10:00AM at which time a rite of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow the service at Farquhar Cemetery in Sulphur.
The family wishes to express a deep heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the doctors and staff of the cardiac care unit at Christus St. Patrick Hospital for the excellent loving care they provided.
