Janice Marie DeRouen Chassay, 71, entered into God's heavenly presence Feb. 17, 2014, concluding a long and valiant fight with Multiple Sclerosis. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her throughout her courageous struggle. Janice was born on Feb. 7, 1943 in Lake Charles, LA to Marie Funk DeRouen and Lucius DeRouen, the eldest of two beautiful daughters. After graduating from LaGrange High School (LA) and working for South Central Bell, she married her high school sweetheart, Charles Chassay, on Sept. 7, 1963 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lake Charles. Married for 50 years, Janice and Charles raised their two sons, Mark and Trent, in Houston. Residing in Sagemont for 48 years, Janice loved playing bridge and the deep friendships she made within her neighborhood were a source of great joy for her. Extremely generous, she loved Christmas most of all and she shared her joy by delivering presents to all of her Lake Charles relatives. A beautiful woman, she was always dressed "to the nines" and kept her young boys styled in the hippest of fashions. A beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and Nana, she will be missed for her wry humor and altruistic spirit. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Charles, sons Mark (Kimberly) and Trent (Catherine), grandchildren Huston Chassay and Katie (Al) Bear, and great-grandchildren Alton and Arthur Bear. Her mother, Marie Funk DeRouen, sister, Becky DeRouen, in-laws Patricia Chassay and Roger Chassay, and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and Godchildren also survive her. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home, Friday February 21, 2014 from 10:00am until 11:30am, with a rosary being prayed at 11:00am. The Rite of Committal will follow at Goos Cemetery in Lake Charles. In lieu of flowers and for those wishing, memorial donations may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Research at UT Health (P.O. Box 301413, Dallas, TX 75303-1413) or the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston (www.catholiccharities.org).
