Jaunita Rhodes Fontenot

Juanita Rhodes Fontenot, 70, of Lake Charles died at 1:05 AM on Friday, October 12, 2012 in her residence.


Mrs. Fontenot was born on September 23, 1942 in Lake Charles and was a 1962 graduate of LaGrange High School. She had a passion for music and teaching music. She played Blue Grass and Gospel music with the band Southern Spice. They toured the states of Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and Mississippi and recorded two professional CD's.


She loved her grandchildren dearly and enjoyed family gatherings. Mrs. Fontenot also liked to cook and she loved crawfish. She was very artistic in many ways and was a recipient of an honorable mention award for a painting displayed at a local art show.


She and her husband were founding members of the Lake Charles Metal Detector Club in 1982. They were also charter members of the Lake Charles Commodore Computer Club. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.


Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Joseph Nelson Fontenot, Jr.; four children, Kelly Fontenot Broussard, Kim Fontenot, Kevin R. Fontenot, and Kory J. Fontenot; a brother, Clifford Rhodes Jr.; a sister, Shirley Ford all of Lake Charles; six grandchildren, Brittani, Bailli, Bria, Malori, Meagan, and Draegan; five great grandchildren, Cooper, Colton, Addyson, Brylee, and Kyrah; and one great grandchild on the way.


Mrs. Fontenot was cremated under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
