Jay Delaney, 52, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on February 13, 2018, on his birthday and one of his favorite days of the year, Mardi Gras!, after a yearlong battle with cancer.
He was born on February 13, 1966 in Lake Charles, LA to John and Marsha LeBleu Delaney. He graduated from LaGrange High School in 1984. He was an outstanding athlete who played high school football and baseball. He also coached City League Football and led the Cowboys to an undefeated championship season in 1999. He and his wife were members of the Krewe of Komova where he was a renowned cook winning first place Amateur Wild Game Gumbo Mardi Gras Cook Off in 2014 and second place 2015 for his fabulous duck gumbo.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Krystal Shoemake Delaney; son, John Christopher Delaney (Emily); daughter, Courtney Nicole Delaney; stepson, Karson Dietz; parents, John and Marsha LeBleu Delaney; grandmother, Beverly Theriot Delaney; grandchildren, Cooper Jude Delaney and Beckett James Delaney; brother, Mark Hugh Delaney; father-in-law, Cliff Shoemake; mother-in-law, Loretta Shoemake; brothers-in-law, Scott LaFleur (Kristin) and Greg LaFleur (Jackie); sisters-in-law, Tammy Acton (Al) and Melanie LaFleur; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Henry LeBleu, Sr., Marjory Ware LeBleu, and Hugh P. Delaney and an uncle, Conway C. LeBleu, ATF Agent.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate. Burial will follow the service in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday from 4 PM until 9 PM. A rosary will be recited at 6 PM. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 AM until 10:30 AM.
