Jean Evelyn Jourdan Smith slept very peacefully into the arms of her loving savior on the afternoon of January 20, 2015. She was born on February 9, 1954 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to the union of the late Austin Jourdan Sr. and Alean Vincent Jourdan. Jean met and married Payton Smith and to this union two loving and devoted sons were born. Jean was a devoted loving mother, mother in law, and grand maw-maw. She loved spending time with her sons, daughters in law, grandchildren, parents, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces. She was a member of Pasadena Missionary Baptist Church where she faithfully served as choir director. Jean Evelyn Jourdan Smith was preceded in death by her father, Austin Jourdan Sr.; her father in law and mother in law, John and Emily Wilrye Smith; six brothers in law; one sister in law; her paternal grandparents, Oscar Jordan Sr., Eva White Jordan and Nancy LeDoux Jordan; her maternal grandparents, Joseph Vincent and Sophie Perkins Vincent; eleven uncles and four aunts. Jean leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy two devoted and loving sons: Sean Austin Smith and Justin D'Juan Smith; two daughters in law, Jene' S. Smith and Gabriella Stevens; three grandchildren, Shaune' Marie Smith. Austin Jourdan Smith and Jourdan D'Sean Smith; her mother, Alean Vincent Jourdan; three brothers, Leo Jourdan, Rev. Austin Jourdan Jr. and Rev. Joseph Jourdan; two sisters, Mary Ann Jourdan-Victorian and Dena Kaye Jourdan; two sisters in law, Martha Jourdan and Maranda Jourdan; one special god daughter, Shaunice Jeanea' (Jarrod) Gasaway; ten nephews and nieces: Gary Paul (Robyn) Jourdan, Angelina Maria Jourdan Anderson, LaKeisha LaChelle (Johnathan) Jourdan-Kearney, Marnique Denea Jourdan, Ashley Renee Jourdan, Kevin Charles Gasaway Jr., Sha'Neal DeShae Jourdan, Shaunice Jeanea' (Jarrod) Gasaway, Leylani Mariel Jourdan and Amber Jourdan-Victorian; eleven great nephews and nieces; three aunts, Irene Prater, Neomi Jourdan and Dora Lee Jourdan; one uncle, Morris Prater and a host of relatives and friends. Her funeral will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Pasadena Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Joseph Jourdan will officiate with Rev. Austin Jourdan Jr. presiding. Burial will follow in Willow Springs church cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday January 24, 2015 from 9:00 AM-11:00AM at the church.
