Jennie Rae Duncan Vinson

Jennie Rae Duncan Vinson, 46, of Welsh passed away at 5:45 AM on Thursday, May 10, 2018 in her residence surrounded by her family.

Jennie was born on April 6, 1972 in Lake Charles, moved to Iowa and lived there most of her life until moving to Welsh four years ago. She was a 1990 graduate of Barbe High School and attended McNeese State University. Jennie took pride in her career with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Department and held many positions there since the age of 18. She was most recently detective over the Animal Cruelty Division. She had also worked as detective in Welsh and taught gun safety classes amongst many other endeavors in law enforcement.

In her spare time, Jennie enjoyed gardening and reading and had a special place in her heart for animals, especially strays.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Raymond, “RJ” Vinson, Jr. of Welsh; two sons, Jack Peters and Mitchell Peters both of Welsh; four step sons, Bram Vinson (Sara) of Lake Charles, Dane Vinson (Tiffany) of Sulphur, Alex Vinson of Nederland, TX, and Lawrence Vinson of Lake Charles; two step daughters, Kimberly LeLeux (Dustin) and Kristi Blankenship (Bleu) all of Moss Bluff; three siblings, Steve Day (Jo Lee), Jackie Clifton (Merrel), and Judie Fontenot (David) all of Zavalla, TX; grandparents, Bobbye and Buck Thompson of Lake Charles; eight step grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carolyne and John Duncan; a brother, Douglas Rae Duncan; a sister, Johnnie Carol Duncan; and the father of her children, Larry Don Peters.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. James Rivers will officiate. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Garden Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Monday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a tribute to Jennie given by Sheriff Tony Mancuso at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service. Pallbearers will be the Sheriff Department Honor Guard.
