Jerrie Allen Young, 78, passed away at home in Lake Charles, LA on Saturday, December 16, 2023 with her beloved family by her side. She was born on April 19, 1945, in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Jerrie was a talented seamstress known best for her bead work, designing, making most of her daughter’s childhood clothing and dance dresses as well as Mardi Gras costumes and ball gowns. She was a Duncan certified ceramicist, teaching ceramics at Trinity Baptist Church for many years. She also spent many years serving as a volunteer Pink Lady at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. She was a proud a member of the 12th Night Revelers and the Cajun French Music Association. She had an extreme love of music, especially Elvis. She was a proud graduate of Sulphur High School and never let her girls forget she was a Tor anytime their high school played them in football. Her proudest accomplishment was raising her two daughters and instilling within them a strong work ethic and love for others.
Those left to cherish her memory are, her beloved husband of 58 years, Oris Young; her daughters, Melissa Young of Baton Rouge and Christy Young Cormier (husband Christopher A. Cormier) of Lake Charles. The light of her life, granddaughter Carly Cormier, brother Floyd Eddie Allen of Dry Creek. Sister, Barbara Allen Barton French (husband John) of Jasper, TX, as well as many loved and adored nieces, nephews, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Margie Allen, brother Glen Teddie “Ted” Allen, Uncle Willard Ray Richard and Grandmother Malia Broussard Weekly
A Memorial Service in honor of Jerrie’s life will be held at 6:00 PM on the evening of Tuesday, December 19, 2023 in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel. Joel Gardner will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00 PM until the start of the service at 6:00 PM. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers are Addison Gardner, Collin Kirkland, Christopher Cormier, Choppy Guillotte, Todd Palmer, Thomas Post, and Christopher Dobbs.
Special thanks to the many physicians and nurses at MD Anderson and Harbor Hospice, Dr. Jim Brown, Dr. Kamran Shahid, Laura Kober, and countless others who loved and supported she and her family these past few months.
