Jerry Bourque, 76, of Moss Bluff died Saturday, July 24, in Lake Charles.
Mr. Bourque was born in Lake Charles and had lived in Moss Bluff most of his life. He was a 1962 graduate of Marion High School where he lettered in football and basketball. He also played Sheriff’s League baseball for several years.
He was the owner of Auto Plaza in Moss Bluff.
Mr. Bourque was a long-time recreational coach that influenced many kids in Moss Bluff while coaching baseball, football, and basketball, and also coached many years of American Legion Baseball. He also along with some help was the cornerstone of starting the baseball program at Sam Houston High School in 1984.
He was a member of the McNeese Baseball Pinch Hitters Club and was one of the members responsible for lighting up the McNeese Baseball field.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia LaFleur Bourque of Moss Bluff; two sons, Nelton Wayne Bourque of New Orleans and Trenton Keith Bourque and his wife Nicho of Moss Bluff. He is also survived by three grandchildren Reid, Marae, and Raley Bourque.
Mr. Bourque was preceded in death by his parents, Nelton Bourque and Nazia Bourque and brothers, Floyd and Ray Bourque.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 30, 2021 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Moss Bluff. The Rev. Tony Bourque will officiate. Burial will be in New Ritchie Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday and from 8:30 AM until time of service on Friday.
