Jerry D. Kirk, 78, of Moss Bluff, LA, died suddenly at 7:35 AM on Saturday, September 26, 2015, in a Baton Rouge hospital after heart surgery. Mr. Kirk was born November 9, 1936 in Sand Springs, OK and graduated with Honors from Westlake High School in 1954. He received a scholarship to McNeese State College, where he graduated and then received his law degree from the University of Oklahoma. He moved back to Louisiana, studied and passed the Bar Exam and was licensed to practice law in two states. Mr. Kirk then served four years in the U.S. Army as a Captain in the JAG Corps. He opened his own law firm in Lake Charles and retired last year. Throughout his fifty years as a lawyer, he had the privilege to bring a case before the Supreme Court and he served as the Westlake City Attorney. Thirty years ago, Mr. Kirk achieved his dream and built and operated his own mobile home community in Westlake, Dove Creek Mobile Home Park. He attended Sale Street Baptist Church and was a devoted man of God. He always wanted to give back to his community and help the less fortunate in any way he could. He would often give out free legal advice and served as the president of the Boys and Girls Village for a number of years. Mr. Kirk was an artist and enjoyed painting and telling jokes. He held his family and friends very close to his heart and lived his life true to his beliefs; always pleasing to God. Mr. Kirk is survived by his loving wife of thirty-nine years, Ari "Hehe" Kirk of Moss Bluff; step-sons, John "Bub" Bel and wife Sandy of Lake Charles and James "Jim" Bel and wife Angela of Moss Bluff; sister, Selma K. Terrell of Westlake, LA; brother, Joe I. Kirk and wife Linda of Peason, LA;; nieces and nephews, Gwen Ashworth, Lilith Sutherland, Insa Sutherland, Inga Sutherland, Steve Morrison, Jeff Morrison, and Brett Spell; grandchildren, John, Alex, Quinn, Christian and Jade Bel; his beloved dogs, Ellie and Cassidy; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and close friends that he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Belle and Jeff Kirk; brother, Billy Kirk; two sisters, Jean Morrison and Evelyn Kirk; and a beloved nephew, Jonathan Kirk. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at Sale Street Baptist Church. Reverends Randy Edwards and Ernest Walker will officiate. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Westlake, LA. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Monday, September 28, 2015, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
