Jerry Joseph Brocato, Sr.

Jerry Joseph Brocato, Sr., 72, of Lake Charles passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016 in the comfort of his home.
 
Mr. Brocato was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. He was a graduate of Lake Charles High School and served the United States Navy.   Mr. Brocato, as owner and President of Gulf Coast Scales, Inc., was a successful businessman for over thirty years. He was a talented athlete, played high school football and baseball and was a Competition boxer for Dailey's gym.  As Catcher, he was invited to play All-star baseball every year and played with a men's softball league well into his 50's.  Mr. Brocato also enjoyed coaching Elementary and Middle school football and baseball and countless years of South Lake Charles Little League baseball.  He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed fishing, hunting, time at his camps from Johnson Bayou to Toledo Band to his ranches in West Texas, those times shared with family and friends old and new and business associates were amongst his greatest times.  Mr. Brocato also loved gatherings of family and friends for his "king of the grill" cookouts, crawfish boils on Good Friday and seafood gumbo on Christmas eve.   He will be most remembered for the "nick names" he gave to those people closest to his heart, and  for twenty five years of attending the Our Lady of the Oaks Retreat.  He attended Cursillo 80 at the St. Joseph's table of the retreat.
 
He leaves to honor his memory, three children, Jerry "Rocko" Brocato, Jr. (Smocko) and wife Margaret, Joanna Brocato Hagan (Smuckee) and husband Toby and Steven John Brocato (Steven JaNoots) and wife Elise, all of Lake Charles; one brother, Dr. Frank Brocato (Frank Goots) and wife Dianne of Moss Bluff; one sister, Carolyn Dunman Harris (Cotti) and husband Jay; nine grandchildren, Kelly Floyd and husband Jeremy, Blake and Anna Borel, Justin and Tyler Hagan and Natalie, Erica, Allison and Stephanie Brocato, all of Lake Charles and his former wife and friend, Linda Ann Brocato of Lake Charles.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Brocato and Frances Silas and his step-father, Charles Silas.
 
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 31, 2016 at St. Theodore Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Father Joseph Pilola will officiate.  Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery.  Visitation Wednesday will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a Cursillo rosary at 7:00 PM in the funeral home.  Visitation Thursday will be from 9:00 AM until the start of service at St. Theodore Catholic Church.
