Jerry Joseph Wyckoff, age 72, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at 6:35 a.m. in his residence. He was born April 22, 1940 in Hamilton, Ohio, the son of Garland and Dorothy Farley Wyckoff.
Jerry was a 1958 graduate of Hamilton High School. In September of 1958 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Chennault Air Force Base in Lake Charles, LA for most of his enlistment. He married Gayle Malagarie on July 21, 1962 in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Lake Charles, LA.
Jerry returned to Hamilton, OH after discharge from the Air Force and was employed at AK Steel (formerly Armco Steel) in Middletown, OH. He retired as a technical repairman in 1994 after 31 years of service with AK Steel.
Jerry earned his Amateur Radio License at age 16, currently held an Extra Class license and had been an active member of the Butler County VHF Association, an amateur radio organization in Hamilton, OH. He was an avid bicyclist and had been a member of the Great Miami Bicycle Club in Hamilton, OH. He also was a Red Cross volunteer, volunteering for a number of national disasters beginning with Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Jerry was a long time member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church in Hamilton, OH and a member of St. Peter's Resurrection Choir. He returned to reside in Lake Charles in 2006 and was currently a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
Jerry is survived by his spouse of 50 years, Gayle Malagarie Wyckoff; sons, Kevin Wyckoff (Kathleen) of San Francisco, CA and Philip Wyckoff of Los Angeles, CA; his granddaughter, Claire Wyckoff, of San Francisco; brothers, Don Wyckoff (Carol) of Cincinnati, OH and Michael Wyckoff (Denise) of Seven Mile, OH; niece, Diane Wyckoff; and nephews, Ryan Wyckoff and Bryan Wyckoff; sister-in-law, Karen Guidry and her husband, Charles, of Lake Charles, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Dorothy Wyckoff.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2012. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, December 29, visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Lake Charles with Father John Huckaby officiating. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles, LA.
The family wishes to thank Heart of Hospice, especially Patra Wilson, for the special care given to Jerry.
