Jerry Roger Demary, Sr., 73, of DeRidder, formerly of Grand Lake, passed away at 9:25 pm on Friday, September 15, 2017 after a lengthy illness. He was at home surrounded by his loved ones when God called him home.
Jerry was born on May 12, 1944, in Sulphur, Louisiana to Eddie Demary Sr. and Annie Marie Demary and raised in Grand Lake, Louisiana where he was a 1962 graduate of Grand Lake High School. Jerry was a proud member of the 1959 Grand Lake Hornets football team. He worked at Union National Life Insurance and retired from the Lake Charles American Press as a District Manager in 2002. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeRidder. Jerry was a long time member and past president of the Calcasieu Rod and Gun Club, as well as a long time member and supporter of Ducks Unlimited and the Louisiana Wildlife Federation.
Jerry loved hunting, football, was a regular at Saturday morning garage sales in search of antiques, tools, and hunting and fishing gear, and was a strong advocate for gun safety.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carol Yvette Johnson Demary, of DeRidder, four sons, Roger Demary, Jr. and wife Laurel of Seabrook, TX; son, Danny Demary and wife Tammy of Iowa, LA; Tommy Demary and wife Candace of Houston, TX; Randy Demary and wife Lindsay of Davis, CA; and daughter, Aimee Brasseaux and husband Dallas of Longville, LA; mother, Annie Marie Demary of Grand Lake, LA, two brothers, Eddie Demary and wife Mary of Lost Spur, TX, and Gilbert Demary and wife Angela of Grand Lake, LA, three sisters, Brenda Delafield and husband Joseph of Ragley, LA, Linda Sue Demary and Gail LaFrance of Grand Lake, LA. Jerry is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, Benjamin Demary, Cameron Comeaux, Justin Demary, Dylan Henrich, Gregory Demary, Zachary Brasseaux, Annabeth Demary, Matthew Brasseaux, David Demary, Joseph Demary, Emma Brasseaux, Alexa Demary, Lane Brasseaux, Isabel Demary, Maizie Demary, Emiko Demary, and Adele Demary.
He was preceded in death by his father Eddie Demary, Sr. and 16 month old grand-daughter Eileen Demary.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Father Jude Brunnert will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Sallier Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home at 3 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at 8:00 until 9:30 a.m.
