Jerry Wayne Thames

Jerry Wayne Thames, 76, of Lake Charles passed away at 12:46 AM on Sunday, October 13, 2024 in a local hospital.

Mr. Thames was born on January 23, 1948 in Sumter, SC where he was raised and was a graduate of Sumter High School. During his high school years, he was known for his athleticism, participating in numerous sports and becoming a well-rounded athlete.

Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served our country in the Vietnam War. After serving four years, he was honorably discharged and relocated to Lake Charles where he would spend the remainder of his life.

Mr. Thames embarked on a successful career, beginning in sales with Tadlock Pipe. He later transitioned to working in sheet metal fabrication for local businesses and most recently drove escort trucks for Louisiana Escort Services, a business operated by his wife's family.

Outside of work, Mr. Thames had a deep love for the outdoors. Whether he was casting a line on the water or spending time in the woods hunting, he found peace and joy in nature's beauty.

Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 20 years, Marie Fruge Thames of Lake Charles; his daughters, Phoebe Qualls (Phil) of Sulphur and Tiffaney Maggio (Sammy) of Moss Bluff; his siblings, Janice Coats (Michael) of Apex, NC, Diane Haddock (David) of Orangeburg, SC, Debra Lee (Charles) of Charleston, SC, Gina Legate (Christopher) of Marietta, GA, Robin Mixon (Gary)of Sumter, SC, and Gary Thames of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Hunter Qualls (Alexa), Carter Qualls (Hannah), Sadie Pickett (Edward), Seth Maggio (Abbie), and Sarah Maggio; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Molly and Andrew Thames.

A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, October 24, 2024 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel. His grandson, Seth Maggio, will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 4:00 PM and continue until 7:00 PM.
