Jesse Shannon Gibbs

September 19, 1932 — July 31, 2014

Our beloved, Jesse Shannon Gibbs, 81, of Lake Charles passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014 in a local healthcare facility. Mr. Gibbs was born in Sweetlake, raised in Hackberry and he lived in Lake Charles until 1988 when he moved to Deweyville, TX. He retired after fifty years of service in the Oil Industry. During his younger years, Mr. Gibbs enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, and looked forward to spending two weeks in San Rayburn every summer. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening and the great outdoors. He leaves to honor his memory, his wife and dear friend of five years, Anna Rollins Gibbs; three children, Ronnie Gibbs and wife Sally of Lake Charles; Robert Gibbs and wife Molly of Duson, LA and Venetta Burch and husband Ken of Deweyville, TX; seven grandchildren, Donnie Gibbs, Chris Gibbs, Stacey Fontenot, Tiffany Richard, Nathan Gibbs, Sara Gibbs and Timothy Burch and eleven great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of forty-seven years, Pat Ocraman Gibbs; four children; parents; two brothers and sister. Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 03, 2014 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation Saturday will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visitation Sunday will be from 12:00 PM until the time of service in the funeral home. The family of Mr. Gibbs wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the Doctor's and staff of Christus St. Patrick's Hospice, Harbor Hospice and a very special thanks to his granddaughter Sarah Gibbs for their excellence in care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
