Jessie Louise Ayer Spencer, 82, died Saturday, May 14, 2011, in her residence in Bedford, Texas, with her loving family at her side.
Born in Ardmore, Oklahoma to William W. Ayer Sr. and Jessie Fleming Ayer, Mrs. Spencer grew up in Lake Charles. She was a 1946 graduate of Lake Charles High School where she was a Kiltie and attended McNeese State University where she met her husband. She trusted Jesus Christ as her savior and often finding comfort in quoting familiar versus of scripture. She was a member of University United Methodist Church while living in Lake Charles. Mrs. Spencer enjoyed all sports, never missing a game during the years her sons were playing baseball. She continued to enjoy watching sports of all kinds on television. She had the unique talent of being a competition whistler.
Mrs. Spencer is survived by her husband of 64 years, Roe Spencer of Bedford, Texas; sons Neal Spencer and wife Patti of North Richland Hills, TX, and Darrell Spencer and wife Karen of Lake Charles; grandchildren David Spencer, Kelley LaGrange and husband Luke, Carrie Kelly and husband Beaux, Jennifer Jaetzold and husband Cory and Kevin Spencer and wife Dora; great grandchildren, Ashlynn, Savannah, Lainey and Graeme; and one brother, William W. Ayer, Jr. and his wife Martha of Madison, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Johnson Funeral Home. Darrell Spencer will officiate. Interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from noon until service time.
