Jessie Vernon "Mr. Mac" Mcmanus

Jessie Vernon McManus, 87, of Moss Bluff, LA died at 10:45 AM on Sunday, November 10, 2013 in his residence. Mr. McManus was born August 7, 1926 in Eros, LA; the 10th of 13 siblings. He was drafted into the U.S. Army as a mechanic attaining the status of Sergeant prior to his honorable discharge. After the leaving the Army, he entered the construction industry as a heavy equipment operator becoming a member of Operating Engineers Local #406. Over the course of his career he became proficient on several pieces of difficult to operate machinery, most specifically the dragline excavator. Ever a hard worker, Mr. McManus moved his family across the southern United States following pipeline and highway constructions projects, most notably the construction of Interstate 10. In 1967, desiring to make a more stable life for his family, he started a small dirt business. Through long hours, hard work, determination and many prayerful nights he grew this small business into a major regional construction company, McManus Construction. This family owned and operated business was passed onto Sheldon McManus in 2003 when he retired at the age of 77. Throughout his life Mr. McManus was an active and dedicated church attendee, most recently at Apostolic Temple in Lake Charles, LA. Mr. McManus is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Regina Boudreaux McManus; son, Sheldon McManus and wife Margret; daughter, Gayle Lormand and husband Keith; grandchildren, Kim, Rohn, Bryan, Traci, Kenric, and Alisha; and a number of great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allie and James McManus; sisters, Eunice, Levis, Delia, Clydie Mae, and Lela; brothers, Alex, Gibson, Jack, Cornelius, Clifton, Leslie, and Calvin. His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at the Apostolic Temple. Rev Ricky Treece, Rev. Lonnie Jordan and Rev. Gunter will officiate. Burial will follow in Ritchie Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the service. The family would like to express a special word of thanks to Gayle Lormand, Delma Perkins, and Brighton Bridge Hospice for such comfort and help in caring for Mr. McManus. Pallbearers for the service will be Kenric Lormand, Derrek Benoit, Mitch Hatch, Mike Harris, Scott Sittig and Christopher Tumey. Honorary pallbearers will be Warren Smith, Roy Hodges, Don Vuelaman and C. J. Benoit.
