Joan Louise Crockett Doucet

December 4, 1949 — November 28, 2022

Joan Louise Crockett Doucet, 72, of Lake Charles, LA, gained her angel wings on Monday, November 28, 2022, at MD Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston, TX and is flying free of all earthly limitations.

Mrs. Doucet was born December 4, 1949, in Bethesda, MD, to John Louis and Margaret Hoshall Crockett.  Her family eventually settled in Lake Charles for her father’s military career at Chennault Airforce Base.  Mrs. Doucet remained in Louisiana marrying the love of her life, Clophas John “C.J.” Doucet.  Together for over 54 years, they established a homestead raising two children and provided community service to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 3208 through the Catholic Committee on Scouting/Camp Fire within the Diocese of Lake Charles.  Using her creativity and resourcefulness, a few of her services were sewing altar server albs for St. Patrick’s Hospital Chapel, co-authoring a fundraiser cookbook titled Not By Bread Alone, and planning and decorating the annual Boy Scouts Bishop dinners.  In honor of her commendable service to the spiritual development of Catholic youth, she was bestowed the honors of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Medal, the Bronze Pelican Award, the St. George Emblem, and the Scouting Scroll of Honor.  In her passing, it has become evident that her greatest joy was witnessing the success of others through her mentoring and service.  She was truly a selfless, highly intellectual woman.

Later in life after her role as a mother, she chose a career path for over 20 years as a Walmart Department Manager.  Her retirement years were spent completing puzzles, playing boardgames, sharing her love of heritage, and relishing moments with her grandchildren.

Continuing her memory will be her husband of fifty-four years, C.J. Doucet; brother, Duane David Crockett and wife Mary from Loredo, TX; daughter, Della Doucet and fiancé Marc Bergeron of Iowa, LA; son, David Doucet II of Cypress, TX; grandchildren, Devin Pearce, Collin Doucet, and Kara Doucet; adored sister-in-love, Doyline Savoy; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Louis and Margaret Hoshall Crockett; sisters, Sharon Lee Crockett Guidry and Ann Janeen Crockett Guidry; nephew, Aaron James Guidry; and daughter-in-law, Deborah Planchard Doucet.

Pallbearers entrusted to carry her to her final resting place will be family friend Arthur Gamble; and nephews, Lee Guidry, Jr., David Crockett, Jr. and Aaron Guidry; grandson, Devin Pearce; and son-in-love, Marc Bergeron.

Joan Crockett Doucet’s services will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles.  Officiant will be Deacon Ray Menard from St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church.  Immediately following services, burial will occur at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Lake Charles, LA.  A gathering of family members and friends will be at the funeral home on Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a Rosary being recited at 6:00 PM.  Visitation will continue on Sunday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.
