JoAnn Varnum (10-19-36 to 1-25-21) loving wife and mother passed away January 25, 2021, in her home with family at her side.
She was born to L.T. and Isabel Lane, in Eunice, Louisiana. JoAnn’s father was involved in oil field work, so the family moved often and JoAnn lived in many places growing up.
While in Fort Worth, TX. She attended Castleberry Baptist Church where she met her Handsome Air Force man from Carswell Airbase. They married and began their family. They eventually moved to Long Island where they raised their family on a small farm in Medford.
JoAnn was a stay-at-home mom. Involved with boy scouts and girl scouts with the children. She enjoyed going to the plays in NYC. She loved to sew and crochet and was a great cook, made wonderful cakes and pies, and she made hundreds of amazing cookies at Christmas time. She did beautiful flower arranging and decorating.
JoAnn was a devout Christian, she often ended her prayers “In Jesus Precious name, Amen.
After her husband retired, they moved to Bancroft, Louisiana where they purchased a farm. JoAnn also enrolled at SOWELA and got her nursing degree. She worked at Merryville Hospital until she retired. Those left to carry on her legacy are her husband Harvey “Bud” Varnum and daughter Valerie Walker, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous relatives.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her sons Roland and Russell Varnum.
JoAnn's memorial service will be held 1pm, Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Maplewood Church of Christ in Sulphur. Her memorial service will be a joint service honoring not only her, but her husband Harvey "Bud" Varnum and her son, Russell P. Varnum. Rev. Brian Spicer will officiate. Food and fellowship will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial donations be made to the church of your choice.
