Joanne Hill Robertson

Joanne Evrena Hill Robertson, 76, died at 8:40 AM, Saturday, August 25, 2012 in a local care facility.


Born to Joseph Stanley and Annie Laurie Tozier Hill, Mrs. Robertson was raised in Santa Cruz, California. She moved to Texas at age 16, where she attended West Texas State University, graduating in 1957 with a double major in Music Education and in Voice and Piano. She taught music in Borger, Texas for two years, and then moved to New York, where in 1966 she earned her degree in Church Music from Eastman School of Music. She was granted a Fulbright Scholarship in voice, studying in Germany from 1967 and 1968. Mrs. Robertson moved to Lake Charles in 1968. She taught at McNeese State University for two years, and then devoted her career to teaching voice and piano from her home. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lake Charles. Mrs. Robertson enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.


She is survived by her husband of forty-four years, Emmett Lamar Robertson, Jr.; one son, Christopher Joseph Robertson and wife DeEtte Harrington of Dripping Springs, Texas; two daughters, Trudy Anne Flores and husband Louis H. Flores, III of River Ridge, Louisiana and Laurie Lamar Robertson of Houston; and three grandchildren, Louis Henry Flores, IV, Madeline Grace Flores and Margo Anne Flores. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David Stanley Hill.


Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 27, 2012 at First United Methodist Church of Lake Charles under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Pastor Weldon Bares and Reverend Louis Blankenbaker will officiate. Inurnment will be at the First United Methodist Church columbarium. A gathering of family and friends will be from 12:00 PM until time of services in the church.


Memorial donations may be made to the Methodist Children's Home, 3029 North Beglis Parkway, Sulphur, LA 70663.
