Joda "Joe" Winford Owens

October 12, 1940 — February 16, 2014

Joda "Joe" W. Owens, 73, died Sunday February 16, 2014 at his home in Carlyss. Joe was a native of Dennis, MS and a veteran of the United States Army. He attended the Celebration Worship Center in Sulphur. He never met a stranger and loved to make people laugh. He was a loving husband, father and brother who was very proud of his family. His favorite pass time was fishing from the piers in Biloxi, MS and flea marketing with his sons. He will be truly missed by many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Winford and Magnolia Bryd Owens, his beloved wife, Burma Davis Owens; daughter-in-law, Lisa Owens; great granddaughters, Lexie & Chloe Roger; brothers, Archie, Frank, William, Donnie, Hayward; sisters, Suvella Puckett, Giffie Cosbie, and Willow Florence Owens. Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his children, Tina Thayer (Ed), Joseph Owens (Pilar), Kim Dowers (Kevin), Terri Owens, Mike Owens (Jana), Lynda Owens (Jay), Paul Owens (Melissa), David Owens (Jennifer)(Theresa), Matthew Owens (Briana), Thomas Owens(Natalie), Deborah Runkle (Chris) and Ann Owens, 30 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, sisters, Betty Puckett (Pride), Inez Brooks, Catherine Motes; brothers, Willard, Charles, and Cliff Owens. A gathering of family and friends will be from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM Friday February 21, 2014 at Celebration Worship Center in Sulphur. A celebration of Joe's life will be at 2:00 PM Friday at the Celebration Worship Center with the Rev. Kevin Williams officiating. Joe will be inurned at Biloxi National Cemetery at a later date.
