Joe Billy Corbello

Joe Billy Corbello, 92, of Westlake, LA, passed away on Thursday June 2, 2016, in a local hospital surrounded by his loving family.

 

Mr. Corbello was born on March 2, 1924 to Henry and Mary Daigle Corbello in Big Lake, Louisiana. He joined the Navy as a teenager and was honorably discharged in 1946. In that time period he served in World War II as a gunner on a torpedo plane. After the war, he was employed as a lineman by Gulf States Utility Company until he was injured and loss both of his arms due to being electrocuted in 1951. In 1952, he started his own business “Corbello’s Electric” which he and his family continued to own and operate for many years. He later became the master electrician for the Calcasieu Parish School Board. He retired from the school board at the young age of 83 in 2007.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mary Frances Goss Corbello; brother, J. J. Corbello; and sister, Della Mae Corbello Goss.

 

Mr. Corbello is survived by his daughter, Margaret Atrelle Corbello Domingue and husband Hubert; son, Charles Corbello; grandchildren, Mitch Domingue and wife Paula, Casey Domingue Richard and husband Chad, and Christina Corbello; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Shelby Domingue and Camryn Richard; as well as many nieces and nephews.

 

He was known to many as Joe Billy, Daddy, Honey, and Uncle Joe Billy. He was an inspiration to everyone he came in contact with. He shared his love for horses with his family and was the inspiration to them and their love for rodeo. His dedication to work even with his handicaps was one you will never see again. He could do anything and always provided for his family and never asked for help.

 

His funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Glenn George will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and continue on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.

 

Pallbearers will be: Mitch Domingue, Richard McCluskey, Chad Richard, Gerald Hoffpauir, and Charles Corbello.
