John A., Foux, 76, of Lafayette passed away at his home, Saturday, June 1st, 2013 at 4:50 PM, surrounded by his wife and children.
Mr. Foux was born on October 29, 1936 in Church Point. His family moved to Lake Charles before he entered school. He graduated from LaGrange High School in 1955 and attended McNeese State University. Mr. Foux resided in Lake Charles, Houma, Crowley and was a resident of Lafayette. He retired from Bell South Telephone Company after 32 years of service. He was a board member of the United Bell South Credit Union, and served a term as president of the Communication Workers of America in Lake Charles. He was a reservist in the Louisiana National Guard for nine years. Mr. Foux was the president of Acadia Parish Council for the Prevention of Child Abuse; a member of First Baptist Church in Crowley; and was a member of Northwood United Methodist Church in Lafayette.
Is survived by his wife of 56 years, Velma LeJeune Foux and his four daughters, Johnny Foux Azar and her husband Kamal of Macon, Georgia; Irene Foux Thompson and Rebecca (Becky) Foux Ohlenforst, both of Lafayette; and Karen Foux of Houston, Texas; one son, John (Gabby) Foux and his wife, Sandra, of Crowley. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Gabriel Azar and his wife, Cristina; Rachel Azar; Valerie Thompson Guidry and her husband Greg; Jessica Thompson; David and Lauren Ohlenforst; Tyson and Cody Foux; and five great grandchildren, Julien and Alexander Azar; Ethne and Andrew Guidry; and Evan Foux. Mr. Foux is survived by two bothers Elden (Bee) Foux and his wife Jean of Moss Bluff; William (Billy) Foux and his wife Elaine of Lake Charles.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Irene Fontenot Foux and John Foux, and his infant sister Mary Belle Foux.
Pallbearers will be Gabriel Azar, Tyson and Cody Foux, David Ohlenforst, Lorne Abshire, and Anthony Foux. Honorary Pallbearers will be Elden Foux, William Foux, Jack Foux, and Arnold LeJeune.
Mr. Foux played football at his high school in Lake Charles and was an avid sports fan throughout his life. His wife, Velma, shared his love of sports and the couple enjoyed attending sporting events and watching sports on television. Other interests include camping with his wife as members of the Holiday Ramblers RV club; gardening; and traveling. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 4th, 2013 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Ann Sutton of Northwood Methodist Church of Lafayette will officiate. Interment will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation Tuesday will be observed from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
The family would like to thank hospice of Acadiana, Doctors Morris Hoffpauir, Jaun Zeik, Stephen Salopek; Donnie Tornblom, nurse case worker; and caregivers Mary Duhon, Cynthia Sargent, and Ida Narcisse, for their tender and compassionate care they provided during Mr. Foux's illness.
