John Carlisle Pecorino, Sr.

March 7, 1937 — February 25, 2024

John Carlisle Pecorino, Sr., 86, passed away in a hospital in New Orleans, LA on Sunday, February 25, 2024. He was born on March 7, 1937, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Jack and Piercie Carlisle Pecorino and was a lifetime resident of Lake Charles.

John graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1955 and was a member of their state football championship team. A prized memento was his bronzed kicking cleat, a tribute to being an outstanding kicker. He followed his youthful dream to the University of Houston and graduated from the College of Pharmacy.

John will be most remembered for his kind and heroically selfless nature, as well as owner and pharmacist of John’s Pharmacy for 40 years. He officially retired as a pharmacist at 79 years young.

John’s entrepreneurial spirit and superb customer service began in his youth, as he grew up in the family business, Pecorino’s Grocery, which his great-grandfather opened in 1890 and continued until his parents retired in the 1950s.

In 1960, John met and married Liz, his wife of 63 years. His favorite past-time was gardening, along with golfing, traveling, and photography. His most special times included Wednesday lunches with the ‘Lunch Bunch’ at LCCC and frequent gathering of friends at their residence for happy hour, affectionately referred to as ‘Wine Time,’ which consisted of a little wine and a lot of conversation and laughter. John was the official historian of the group.

Those left to cherish his memory are, his beloved children, Angela Pecorino Etheridge (Dave) of Salisbury, MD, Linda Elizabeth Pecorino of Seattle, WA, and John Pecorino, Jr. (Will Paulson) of New Orleans, LA; his brothers-in-law, Pat McDonald (Donna) and David McCarty; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Liz” McDonald Pecorino; his son, Anthony Joseph “Tony” Pecorino; his sisters Glenda Pecorino McCarty and Jacqueline Pecorino.
