John Carroll Hebert

March 26, 1927 — June 25, 2021

John Carroll Hebert, 94, died 9:00 AM, Friday, June 25, 2021. He spent his last days in the company of beautiful women. His four daughters made sure one of them visited him every day, doting on him and bringing him sweet treats. Even in his dreams, the love of his life visited him just before his death.

Johnny loved God and the people in his life. He consistently provided a good life for his wife and daughters, spoke two languages, knew how to tell a good story, adored fishing with his friends and grandchildren, spent his career as a master carpenter for PPG, traveled extensively with his siblings in retirement, presided over the barbecue pit every Sunday, enjoyed coffee at McDonald’s every morning and cold beer every night, listened to hundreds of audiobooks, danced until his feet were sore, and played Bingo. He served on the board of the PPG Credit Union, was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and a devoted member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven.

He built a home for his family in 1971 with his own two hands. The house overflowed with guests and laughter at Christmas. It was a sturdy house, one that withstood nearly half a century of Louisiana storms and is still standing despite Hurricane Laura’s best efforts.

What more could a man want?

Just one more thing, actually.

For us to know that he loved and prayed for us every day.

He was born March 26, 1927 in Lafayette, LA, the third of Didier and Mona Hebert’s seven children; Charles, Bobby, Carlton, Janice (McNeil), Bernard, and Diane (Johnson).

At 17, he moved to California and soon joined the United States Navy. He shipped out on the USS Natrona to the Philippines, where he was a naval machinist and minesweeper. He was a proud World War II veteran and always attended reunions with his shipmates.

When he returned from his tour of duty, he met the dark-haired beauty, Ramona Broussard, in Los Angeles, CA. On their first date, he told to Ramona he was going to marry her and made good on that promise three months later. The couple eventually settled in Lake Charles and raised four daughters: Rhonda Hope (Tiffany), Bridgett Faith “Beanie” Hebert, Lydia Claire Charity (Derouen), Monica Carol Grace (Gaspard).

Preceding him in death was his wife of over 50 years, Ramona Ann Hebert. It’s been more than 19 years since her passing, and it’s a comfort to know they are finally reunited for eternity.

He is survived by his daughters, sons in law and grandchildren; Dave Tiffany of Lake Charles, Lee Derouen of DeRidder, Ricky Gaspard of Lake Charles, Johnny LeBleu of West Columbia, TX,  Jessica Chowdhury of Houston, TX, Jimmy LeBleu of Lake Charles, LA, Jason Vallery of Orlando, FL, Amanda Orr of Houston, TX, Jordan Derouen of Columbia, SC, Garriet Manuel of Lacassine, LA, Blake Gaspard of Lake Charles, LA, Karah Dorion of Ragley, LA, and Becky Viator of Sulphur, LA and 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Visitation and luncheon to be held 12:00 PM, Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Miguez Funeral Home in Jennings, LA, followed by a rosary and funeral service at 1:30 PM under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles.  Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park.  Father Keith Pellerin will officiate the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in Mr. John C. Hebert’s name to the South West Louisiana Veterans Home Bingo Activities. Please call SWLA Veterans Home at 337-824-2829.
