John Edward Lormand, 71, of Lake Charles, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024, at a local hospice center following an extended illness.
John, a native of Crowley, spent most of his life in the Lake Charles Area. He graduated from LaGrange High School in Lake Charles, class of 1970. He honorably served our nation in the United States Army and pursued a career in the Industrial Construction industry. John found solace and inspiration in reading scripture, cherishing the wisdom found within its pages.
Preceding John in death are his parents, Merlyn Francis and Betty Joy Faulk Lormand. He leaves behind a legacy of joy and love, cherished by his sons, Robert Michael Lormand and Stephen Christopher Lormand, along with Stephen’s spouse Taylor, of College Station, Texas.
John’s joyful spirit, generosity, and unwavering desire to see smiles on the faces of others endeared him to many. He cherished spending time with family and friends, creating lasting memories and fostering bonds that were truly special. He was a member of Freedom Life Church, where his faith and compassion touched the lives of those around him.
In addition to his immediate family, John is survived by his sister, Brenda Underwood of Westlake; brothers, Ronald Lormand of Hutto, Texas, and Rev. James P. Lormand of Lake Charles; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family of the heart.
Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and will resume on Monday, March 4, at 9:00 AM. Funeral services will commence at 10:00 AM on Monday at the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Paula Raley officiating. Following the service, burial will take place at 1:30 PM at the Southwest Louisiana Veteran’s Cemetery in Jennings.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Harbor Hospice of Lake Charles for their compassionate care and support during John’s final illness.
