John Francis Millet

On May 12, 2022, the life of John Francis Millet ended on this earth and his first day in Heaven began. John was born on December 4, 1946 in Lake Charles to Professor and Mrs. Donald J. Millet, Sr. He grew up in Lake Charles and attended LaGrange High School, graduating in 1964. He attended McNeese and graduated in 1974 with a BA degree in Psychology.

John joined the U.S. Army for two years from 1968-1970 and proudly served his country as an Infantry soldier in Vietnam from December 15, 1968, through December 14, 1969.

John was a devout Catholic spending much of his time preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. In doing so, he brought many of his friends and acquaintances into the fold of the Lord.

His younger and happiest days were spent following the mighty LaGrange Gators both in football and basketball. His greatest passion was following the celebrated Gator basketball team coached by Roy Cates from its beginning, all the way to the 1967 state championship game against Baton Rouge High. Going into the game, both teams were undefeated. LaGrange won the game, ended their season with a perfect 35-0 record. What a great memory to behold and share with others!

John was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Donald J. Millet, Sr. and Doris Talbot Millet; and his sister Suzanne (Sue) Millet Perry.

Left to celebrate John’s life are his brothers, Donald Millet, Jr. and Robert Millet.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, with Father Levi Thompson serving as celebrant. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles from 12:00 PM until 1:45 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
