John Salvatore Giaimis, Sr., 78, of Lake Charles, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, in the comfort of his home.
Mr. Giaimis was born in Boston, MA, October 23, 1932. He served the United States Air Force which brought him to Lake Charles in 1951. Having loved the warm weather and culture of Louisiana, he made Lake Charles his home.
During his younger years, Mr. Giaimis operated two service stations for nearly ten years. He then went into the towing business, as owner and operator of an Independent Wrecker and Towing for twenty six years. During this time he worked tirelessly to grow business from light duty only to heavy trucks and trailors and was trained and licensed, in Louisiana and Texas, for Hazardous Material Emergency Response. He was a charter member of Towing and Recovery Association of America. Mr. Giaimis also owned and operated for nearly twenty five years, with his son, Tony, Bridge Point Yacht Center, a full service Marina. He was dedicated to promoting safe boating.
Mr. Giaimis enjoyed raising orchids and roses and sailing. He was Flotilla 66 Commander for three years, a member of the Bridge Point Yacht Club, Lake Charles Sail and Power Squadron and the American Legion. He also enjoyed being an Amateur Operator, with his call letters being K5OPN.
He leaves to honor his memory, his wife of fifty-six years, Ella Ruth Thibodeaux Giaimis of Lake Charles; daughter, Charmaine G. Mocsary and husband Joseph of Albany, LA; and son, Anthony Giaimis and wife Kim LaFleur of Westlake, LA; grandchildren, Christina Mocsary, Lyndsie Giaimis, Gina Giaimis, John S. "Tore" Giaimis, III, and Joshua Giaimis; and great-grandson, Dalton Giaimis.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Sateriale Giaimis; father, Salvatore Giaimis; and son, John Salvatore Giaimis, Jr.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, March 19, 2011, at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a 5:30 p.m. American Legion Service and a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM in the funeral home.
