John "Hokey" East

John Robert “Hokey” East, 55, passed away on May 14, 2024, in a local hospital.  Hokey was born January 29, 1969, to DJ East and Lucy Morrow Andrews.  He worked as a superintendent on shutdown projects and later in his life he enjoyed shrimping, crabbing and woodworking.  Hokey was very social and loved spending time with his friends and family.  He rodeoed for many years during high school.

Hokey is survived by his wife, Shelby; his children, Josh East and wife, Kylie and Corey East; one grandchild, Cullen East; one brother, Darren “Crabber” East and wife, Stephanie; his parents, DJ East and Lucy Andrews, and his nieces and nephews, Drew, Darra and Jessica.

Services for Hokey will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 11:30 AM at the New Hackberry Community Center.  Burial will follow at Hackberry Community Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 9 AM until the time of service.
