John Howard Ledoux

March 26, 1928 — April 20, 2024

Howard Ledoux peacefully passed away on April 20, 2024, in Big Lake, LA. He was born on March 26, 1928, in Sweet Lake, LA, to John Sampson and Cornelia Hebert Ledoux. Howard lived in Lake Charles for 48 years before moving to Big Lake in 2004. Howard graduated from Grand Lake High School in 1945.

After graduation he answered the call to serve in the United States Navy and dedicated two years of service in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Myles C. Fox DD-829. Upon completing his military duty, Howard went to work for Lone Star Cement where he was employed as a lab technician, process controlman, and physical tester for 10 years. He then spent the next 25 years at Hercules, Himont, and Lyondell Basell plastic plant where he worked as an operator in the molding powder area until his retirement in 1993.

Outside of work, Howard had a great love for mechanics which was cultivated through assisting his father in repairing farm equipment. Howard’s expertise in mechanics knew no bounds and he could repair any engine, big or small. He also found joy in gardening, dancing at the VFW, speaking the French language, and actively participating in his church community. He was a devout member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church and an attendee of St. Mary of the Lake Church.

Howard leaves behind a legacy of love and family, survived by his daughter Ramona Ledoux Moore, son-in-law Cecil Sandlin, granddaughters Megan Sandlin Bostick (David) and Jessica Moore, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by stepdaughters Joan Richard (Gerald) and Inga Jones (Randy), step-grandchildren Kane Richard, Dr. Courtnee Richard Pelton (Daniel), Evan Jones, and Morganne Jones Birt (Michael), and two step great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 48 years, Irene Breaux Ledoux, and later by his second wife, Audrey Matte Ledoux, whom he was married to for 20 years, his daughter Debra Ledoux Sandlin, granddaughter Christine Sandlin Tranchina, his brothers Joseph Littleton Ledoux, August Bobby (A.B.) Ledoux, and Sampson Jr. Ledoux, and nephew Donald Ledoux. Those who knew Howard will always remember him as gentle, patient, and compassionate. His absence will be deeply felt by his family, and he will be dearly missed.

Following private funeral services, he will be laid to rest in Consolata Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Amedisys Hospice Care, the Cameron Parish Deputies, and Gerri and Craig Hendrix for all of their love and support.
