John Joseph LaHood, Jr., 87, left his earthly home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 10, 2013, after a short illness. He was surrounded by his family as the angels peacefully guided him home. There to meet him was his wife of 42 years, Dorothy Shirley LaHood; his father and mother, Claude and Aimee "Mae" Guidry; his brothers, Lloyd Guidry and Albert Guidry; two great grandchildren, Karissa Doucet and Joseph LaHood; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. He retired after 33 years of service with South Central Bell and was president of CWA Local #10407. John was a WWII Navy Veteran and spent his remaining six years at the Veterans Home in Jennings, Louisiana. While at the home he served on the Residence Council and also led rosary during mass services in the chapel. He was honored by Governor Bobby Jindal who gave him the Louisiana War Veterans Medal at the Veterans Home. He will be remembered mostly for his fun loving nature and his laughter. Those left to cherish his memory are his four children, Gary LaHood, Sr., Janice LaHood Higginbotham and husband Jimmy, Randy LaHood and wife Bridget and Kim LaHood all of Lake Charles, LA.; his beloved sister and brother, Juanita Orsua of Sacramento, CA and Jon Robert Smith of Dallas, TX; as well as thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one grandcat, Sydney. His grandsons will carry him to his final resting place. His funeral will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Reverend Jeff Starkovich will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Wednesday at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday at 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM.
