John Lucian Corbin, affectionately known as "Red", passed away peacefully from this life on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Emeritus, Kenner, LA. . , at the age of 84. He was born to the late Nanny Watson Corbin and John Lucian Corbin Sr. on January 3, 1930 in Jasper, Alabama., Beloved husband to the late Nellie Olma Williams Corbin for 61 wonderful years. Loving father of Sondra Corbin Freitag (Tommy) of Kenner, La., John Michael Corbin (Jamie)of Nashville, Tn., Mitchell Lucien Corbin (Julie) of Orlando, Fla. , Susan Corbin Ellender Meyers and Sheri Corbin Brock of Sulphur, La. and the late Jason Corbin. Grandfather of 17, great grandfather of 23. and great-great grandfather of 2. Mr. Corbin leaves behind two sisters, Mildred Corbin Barton and Billy Corbin Martin, both of Jasper, Alabama, along with a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Corbin worked as an electrician until he retired. He had an admireable work ethic which he passed down to his children. He was an amazingly talented man who succeeded in everything he attempted. He taught himself to play many instruments, his favorite being the banjo, which brought much happiness and pleasure to others. After he retired, he devoted most of his life to his passion....building mandolins. He and his wife worked side by side with pride creating beautiful works of art to be enjoyed by others with the same love of music they had. Mr. Corbin was an extraordinary artist in many aspects of the word. He enjoyed whittling wood, drawing/sketching , and was an accomplished furniture maker as well. He leaves a legacy that compares to no other for his family. He passes down to his future generation his happiness, playfulness and pure love for all of his family and friends. Red and Nell were blessed to find each other and spend their lives together, which instilled the love that marriage is really about in their children. Mr. Corbin has touched so many lives with his generosity, music, talent and love. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and who loved him. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 11,2014 at 1 p.m. at Parkview Baptist Church in Sulphur with Rev. Randall Chesson officiating. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery North under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home and will resume visitation on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of the service.
